What this episode covers

There’s a care option that costs a fraction of the others — and most families have never even toured one.

Adult day centers — called adult medical day care in Maryland — provide daytime supervision, meals, activities, social connection, and often nursing services and medication management, on weekdays while the family caregiver works. Your loved one lives at home, spends the day engaged and safe, and comes home for dinner. The cost runs far below one-on-one care for the same hours, and in Maryland, Medicaid programs and veterans benefits often help pay. Day services are especially powerful for early and middle-stage dementia: structure and socialization during the day frequently mean calmer evenings and better sleep at night.

For a working caregiver, adult day services plus morning and evening home care can be the exact combination that keeps Mom at home — and keeps your job.
