What this episode covers
Four hours a day? Overnights? Someone living in? Home care comes in more shapes than most families realize.
Hourly care is the most common: a caregiver comes on a set schedule — mornings for bathing and breakfast, afternoons for meals and errands — usually with a minimum shift length. Overnight care places a caregiver in the home while your loved one sleeps: awake all night for someone who wanders, or resting nearby and available. Around-the-clock care staffs the home in shifts, twenty-four hours a day. And live-in care places one caregiver in the home for days at a time, with required sleep and break periods. The right structure depends on when the risky hours actually are — and many families discover the danger isn’t the afternoon. It’s two in the morning.
Match the schedule to the risk. A good assessment identifies exactly when help is needed most — so you’re paying for coverage that protects, not coverage that just fills a calendar.
